AnnotationThe paper deal with the history of occurrence, monitoring, recent distribution, treats and limiting factors, legal status, proposal area of Natura 2000 and management plan for large carnivores in the Czech Republic. Poaching is the most serious threat of the large carnivore populations. The strict legal protection alone is ineffective .The only way to manage the populations is to educate a new generation of game managers and foresters as well as other public.
