However, the most of TJR failures are attributed to UHMWPE wear. In this work it has been demonstrated that the optimal radiation dose, i.e. the dose leading to maximum wear resistance, strongly depends on the external conditions during radiation, thermal treatment and shelf-life of UHMWPE. The results are based on rheology, scattering, spectroscopic and wear experiments.
