AnnotationIon temperature in the tokamak scrape-off layer (SOL) is notoriously difficult tomeasure and thus rarely available. A new kind of the robust Langmuir probe, the so-called segmented tunnel probe, was designed for this purpose. We show, that the ion distribution along the tunnel decays with a characteristic scale length, which is a function of the ion temperature. Therefore, by dividing the tunnel into two segments, the ion temperature can be found from the ratio of ion current to the first and the second segment. The advantage is that the probe is operated in DC mode and thus provides fast measurements of ion temperature as well as of the parallel ion current density. We present preliminary results of the numerical simulations and the experimental testing of the STP prototype at CASTOR tokamak.
