One of the main reasons why TJR's fail is the rise of microscopic UHMWPE wear particles. In this study we investigated colloidal solutions of UHMWPE particles and Au nanoparticles. It has been demonstrated that the quantitative analysis of UHMWPE wear particles by means of QELS is possible, at least in principle, on condition that we use a known amount of Au nanoparticles for calibration.
