Apple mosaic virus is an isometric virus with relatively unstable virions. It has been found in birch, hop, rose and other woody hosts. ApMV is often found in mixed infections with Prunus necrotic ringspot virus and Prune dwarf virus. To date, no serotypes have been described despite the fact that amino acid sequence variants in the capsid protein gene are known. ELISA tests are available for large scale testing. RT-PCR in varios arrangements are recommended now.
