Korespondence dvou klíčových osobností naší osvícenské vědy a rané fáze národního obrození je přímým svědectvím utváření národního vědomí a rozvoje vědeckého života v poslední třetině 18. století v českých zemích. Na pozadí dvou individuálních osudů v ní rezonují některé otázky a problémy celospolečenského charakteru (josefínské reformy, rušení klášterů), dobové učenecké spory, proměny estetických forem – doznívání konceptu historia litteraria a nástup narativních tendencí v dílech Františka Faustina Procházky a Josefa Dobrovského a její přirozenou součástí jsou i zprávy všední, tedy takové, které vstupují do každé soukromé učenecké korespondence.

The correspondence of two key personalities of our Enlightenment and the early stages of national revival is a direct testimony to the formation of national consciousness and the development of scientific life in the last third of the 18th century in the Czech lands. On the background of the two individual destinies resonate some questions and problems of the social character (the Josephine reforms, the abolition of monasteries), the age-old scholarly disputes, the transformation of aesthetic forms - the decline of the concept of historia litteraria and the rise of narrative tendencies in the work of František Faustin Procházka and Josef Dobrovský and its natural part there are also everyday, that is, messages that enter into every private scholarly correspondence.
