Úvodní kapitola přibližuje metodologii monografie a shrnuje obsahy jednotlivých následujících kapitol, ve kterých autoři traktují konkrétní příklady české recepce antiky. V úvodní kapitole je naznačena optika, kterou jednotliví autoři na tuto recepci pohlížejí, tedy určitá mytologizace antiky a pojmenovávání stereotypizovaných konceptů, které jsou s její představou typicky spojovány.

The Introduction to the monograph summarizes its methodology and contents of the respective chapters that deal with individual aspects of classical reception in the Czech lands. The Introduction defines the perspective of the monograph which is the Barthian mythologization of the Classical Antiquity and classification of concerete stereotypes associated with the period in Czech cultural milieu of the 19th and 20th centuries.
