Biological prostheses made of decellularized cross-linked bovine pericardium and porcine aortic heart valves or mechanical prostheses are used for transplantation of aortic heart valves. None of these prostheses contain autologous cells. The purpose of our study is to prepare decellularized porcine pericardium, which would be suitable for colonizing with both autologous stem cells and endothelial cells, and subsequently transplanted into a patient. For decellularization, we tested different solutions and time of exposure. Effectiveness of decellularization process was assessed by hematoxylin-eosin staining and Hoechst staining. Extracts of the decellularized pericardium were evaluated for biocompatibility using xCelligence method. Decellularized porcine pericardium seems to be a suitable scaffold for preparing bioartificial heart valves.
