AnnotationThis work concerns links between the fundamentals and analytical applications of GD-OES. The present calibration model of GD-OES reflects some fundamental physics, but unlike other approaches that are based largely on computer simulations, it requires a ‘functional’ rather than a ‘simply descriptive’ picture of the reality, concerning atomization-, transport- and excitation processes in the discharge source. Important is the range of the materials to be analyzed, the accuracy of the model and the level of the necessary trade-off between both.
