Svou zkušenost z kulturního podnikání zúročili i ve vlastních beletristických textech, Škvorecký v Příběhu inženýra lidských duší v postavách nakladatelky Santnerové a jejího manžela, Salivarová pak v klíčovém románu Hnůj země. Jakkoli je třeba názory a postoje literárních postav interpretovat v kontextu daného díla, nabízejí tyto literární texty čtenářům nevšední náhled do ediční i obchodní strategie nakladatelství 68Publishers, ale také do kulturního života české exilové komunity. Description in English In 1971, Zdena Salivarova and Josef Skvorecky founded in Toronto a publishing house: the plan was to offer books in Czech to people who – like them – had to leave Czechoslovakia as well as to support the proscribed writers in Czechoslovakia. Being writers, they also benefited from the experience in their own work – in his novel The Engineer of Human Souls, Skvorecky parodied themselves in the characters of an excentric publisher Santnerova and her henpecked husband, while Salivarova enbodied many of her traumatic memories in her novel in letters The Manure of Earth. Taking into account the limits of fiction, these pieces of art also offer an interesting in-side view of the business strategies of exile cultural enterprises and of the Czech exile community in Canada.
