We propose that plants can remember past environmental interactions via epigenetic change. Clonal plants may particularly benefit from such memories because of communication of interconnected ramets with different memories. Such system could enable clonal plants to express "intelligent" behaviour, which can provide them with an evolutionary advantage over non-clonal species. We also propose possible approaches how to assess potential intelligent behaviour in clonal plants.
