This study presents the development of a thermally stable polybenzimidazole nanofibrous mat, designed as a support for platinum catalysts in the total oxidation of volatile organic compounds. The electrospun mats offer high porosity, ensuring accessible platinum active sites and low pressure drop. By adjusting preparation conditions, catalysts with specific platinum particle sizes were synthesized, revealing optimal performance with a 12 nm Pt particle size due to the presence of more reactive oxygen species. A catalyst with just 0.08 wt.% platinum achieved a 90% conversion of ethanol, acetone, and toluene at temperatures below 335 °C, demonstrating its potential for cost-effective pollution control technologies.
