Ve státním útvaru zvaném království je korunovace panovníka nejvýznamnější manifestací státní svrchovanosti. K specifickým stránkám českých dějin patří, že jejich státním útvarem bylo sice po staletí mezinárodně uznávané království, ale jeho panovnický trůn byl obsazen rakouskou dynastií Habsburků, jež za rezidenci svého dvora volila po staletí Vídeň. Přibližně polovina českých králů z tohoto rodu se v Praze vůbec korunovat nedala. Protože korunovace jako akt okázale ceremoniální povahy je vždy spojena i s rozsáhlými hudebními aktivitami, stala se tématika korunovačních oper v hudební historiografii předmětem rozsáhlého výzkumu. Studie se obírá operami ke korunovacím Karla VI. (1723), Marie Terezie (1743) a Leopolda II (1791) a jejich velkými vzájemnými odlišnostmi.

In a state entity called a kingdom, the crowning of a monarch is the most significant manifestation of state sovereignty. One of the specific aspects of Bohemian history is that their state entity was an internationally recognized kingdom for centuries, but its throne was occupied by the Austrian Habsburg dynasty, which for centuries chose Vienna as the residence of its court. Approximately half of the Bohemian kings from this family refused to be crowned in Prague. Since the coronation, as an act of a ceremonial nature, is always connected with extensive musical activities, the topic of coronation operas has become the subject of extensive research in musical historiography. The study focuses on the operas for the coronation of Charles VI. (1723), Maria Theresa (1743) and Leopold II (1791) and their great mutual differences.
