During the Middle Ages, the initiative of women, especially from the upper classes of society, was very much reflected in the sphere of art, whether they acted as commissioners and patrons or directly as active participants in large-scale foundational activities. Nor can we omit their own creative activity. The conference papers on art historical subjects (architecture, sculpture, painting, arts) were complemented by a literary and musicological section. The aim of the conference was to offer a space for a broad interdisciplinary discussion on an international level.
