    The paper deals with the basic principles of rural economy in early medieval Central Europe, which discusses primarily on case studies from Great Moravia. It presents the analysis of socio-economic relations in agrarian settlement and its subsequent comparison with central places as a primary prerequisite for our deeper understanding of the organizational and functional principles of early medieval socio-economic (political) units.
