Description in English The average consumption of textile fibres globally was around 3.7 kg per capita in 1950, but had already increased to 13 kg in 2016. Naturally, this has resulted a significant increase in volumes of textile waste. Currently, the annual amount of textile waste is estimated to be more than 83 million tonnes worldwide. Within the EU alone, around 16 million tonnes of ELVs are generated per year, of which only 15-20% are collected for recycling and only 1% is actually recycled. The situation in the Czech Republic is currently being mapped by a joint project of the Institute of Chemical Processes of the CAS, CENIA and Brno University of Technology. The first results showed that textiles from municipal waste are mostly recycled, while textiles from industrial waste are landfilled and incinerated.
