Klara Kemp-Welch's book Networking the Bloc. Experimental Art in Eastern Europe, 1965-1981 published in 2018 by MIT Press conceptualises the Eastern European art history of the given period as an unravelling of the networks that connected individual art scenes or specific actors. This approach allowed her to document various international contacts and cultural transfers. As a result, it contrasts with histories written in national languages, which often emphasised the separateness, specificity or authenticity of a given context. However, some of the important questions still remain unanswered, such as of how to deal with the problem of separating the official, semi official or unofficial art scenes, or how to overcome the division of the so called experimental art from the rest.
