K šíření vlastní náboženské doktríny prostřednictvím tištěného média se již na začátku šestnáctého století odhodlala jednota bratrská, která z knihtisku učinila součást vzdělání na bratrských školách. Navzdory dlouhodobému zájmů o knižní produkci této zakázané náboženské skupiny stále neznáme konkrétní typografický materiál, který bratrští sazeči užívali při sazbě kancionálů, biblických knih či náboženské literatury v letech 1562-1579, kdy byla do provozu uvedena první bratrská tiskárna. Studie blíže představuje jak specifika bratrského knihtisku, tak zpřístupňuje výsledky provedené analýzy fyzických znaků bratrské tiskové produkce z let 1562-1579. Výzkum materiality odhalil v případě bratrské knihy moderní způsoby editorské práce, vyšší míru uplatnění humanistické typografie a vysoké investice do vybavení vlastní tiskařské dílny. Description in English The printed book became an essential communication medium in the course of reformation. The book´s materiality performed a crucial role in disseminating religious thoughts and reception of the printed word. The Unity of the Brethren decided to spread its religious doctrine through the printed medium at the beginning of the 16th century. Moreover, they made printing an integral part of the priest´s education. Despite the long interest in books published by this banned religious community, we still know little about characteristics of the typography used by the Brethren while setting the hymnbooks, Bibles and other religious literature in the period between 1562-1579 when the first Brethren´s printing press set to work. This study identifies the unique characteristics of the Brethren´s printing in further detail and reveals the very recent findings from bibliographical research on the physical features of the Brethren´s production printed between 1562 -1579. In terms of the Brethren´s books, the study of materiality indicates advanced editorial practices, high ratio of humanistic typography and considerable investment in printing house equipment.
