V roce 2018 si Česká republika a její občané připomenou důležité dějinné mezníky, jakými byly: vznik samostatného Československa, podpis Mnichovské dohody, Únor 1948, události pražského jara 1968 a v neposlední řadě také ustavení samostatné České republiky. Uvedené mezníky vybízejí k zamyšlení nad rozhodujícími okamžiky, utvářejícími existenci a podobu české státnosti ve 20. století. A současně podněcují úvahy o vizích dalšího směřování. Cílem konference je zahájit v předvečer připomínaných „osmičkových“ výročí veřejnou diskusi o historických milnících a představách o další budoucnosti Česka s významnými osobnostmi akademického, kulturního a politického života.

In 2018 Czech Republic commemorates important historical milestones such as: the formation of independent Czechoslovakia, the signing of the Munich agreement, the events of the Prague Spring 1968 and last but not least the establishing of the Czech Republic. These landmarks urge us to reflect the critical moments that contributed to the shaping of Czech statehood during the 20th century. They also invite us to reconsider the prospects and visions of its further developments. The aim of the conference is to discuss those issues with the representatives of intellectual, cultural and political life.
