The article deals with the role of Czechoslovak and Eastern German communists in the revolutions of 1989 and with their attempt to win the lost legitimacy during the year 1990. It shows that these attempts were at least partially successful and both parties become the advocates of the biographies of those who had trouble to act in the new systems.
