Ukazuje, že zatímco Marx a Engels předpokládali postupné vymizení národů, další generace marxistů pochopila závažnost národnostní otázky a diskuse o vztahu k nacionalismu se stala jednou z nejzávažnějších v celém hnutí. Po vzniku Sovětského svazu byl učiněn pokus o vyřešení národnostní otázky poskytnutím široké autonomie, ale imperiální charakter sovětského svazu, oživoval národnostní odpor vůči jeho strukturám a nacionalismus se stal významnou silou, která přispěla ke kolapsu východoevropského státního socialismu. Description in English The article deals with the relationship between national movements and Marxism. It shows that while Marx and Engels assumed the gradual disappearance of the nations, the next generation of Marxists understood the importance of the national question and the discussion of the relationship to nationalism became one of the crucial ones in the whole movement. After the establishment of the Soviet Union, an attempt was made to resolve the national issues by granting broad autonomy, but the imperial character of the Soviet Union revived constantly national resistance against its structures, and nationalism became a significant force that contributed to the collapse of East European state socialism.
