V padesátých letech rozvinul E. Voegelin tezi o gnostické povaze modernity. Teze narazila na zásadní kritiku, dnes však s diferenciací přístupů k projektu moderny znovu nabývá na aktualitě. Tento svazek přináší nejdůležitější texty, v nichž Voegelin analyzuje základní rysy gnóze a snaží se ukázat jejich přítomnost v moderní politické teorii, filosofii dějin i praktické politice.

In the 50s, E. Voegelin presented his thesis on the gnostic character of modernity. The thesis encountered a fundamental critique, today, however, with the differentiation of approaches to the project of modernity, it gains a new topicality. This volume collects the most important texts analyzing the general traits of gnosis and showing their presence in modern political theory, philosophy of history, and practical policy.
