Stať sleduje vývoj Masarykových názorů od počátku jeho působení na pražské univerzitě i námitky, s nimiž se tyto názory setkávaly, ať už se týkaly zejména jeho pojetí smyslu české historie (E. Denis, Gollova škola a zejména J. Pekař), jeho kritiky liberalismu (národohospodář Kaizl) ad. Ukazuje také, jak se měnil jeho pohled na sebevraždu, kterou posléze pokládá za určitých podmínek za eticky zdůvodněnou.

The paper follows how T. G. Masaryk's opinions developed from the beginning of his tenure at Prague University. Attention is at the same time payed to the objections raised to Masaryk’s ideas by his contemporaries, may these be Masaryk's conception of „the meaning of Czech history” (E. Denis, so called Goll’s School of History and especially J. Pekař) or his critique of liberalism (Kaizl’s Economic School) Also discussed is Masaryk’s changing views of suicide, which he later saw as ethically justified under certain conditions.
