AnnotationWe introduce a simple continuous excitation function (having a ”double ramp”, or triangular, shape), centered on the epochs of geomagnetic jerks, and estimate its amplitude to fit best the integrated pole positions to its observed positions. The combined results of numerical integration of atmospheric/oceanic excitations plus this newly introduced excitation are then compared with the observed celestial pole offsets. The comparison shows that this approach improves the agreement between the two time series significantly.
