Výstava představila arcivévodu Ferdinanda jako historickou osobnost dlouhodobě spjatou s osudem českých zemí a uměním období renesance, i jako člověka s jeho osobními vazbami a zájmy. Zvláštní pozornost byla věnována Ferdinandově sběratelské vášni. Jeho sbírky zahrnovaly tři proslulé kolekce: zbrojnici, kunstkomoru a rozsáhlou knihovnu. Výstavní koncept obsahoval přes tři sta exponátů různého charakteru, od obrazů a vzácných předmětů uměleckého řemesla, přes renesanční zbroje, cenné listiny včetně vlastnoručního dopisu arcivévody až po přírodniny a kuriozity.

The exhibition presented Ferdinand II, Archduke of Austria (1529-1595), son of Emperor Ferdinand I, as a historical figure connected for a long period with the Czech Lands and also with art of Renaissance in the Central Europe. Important theme of the exhibition represented archduke as an avid collector. His celebrated collections included three parts: arms and armories, kunstkammer and library. The concept of the exhibition contains more than three hunderts of objects of vary different kinds: paintings, precious objects of decorative arts and golsmithery, Renaissance armories, naturalia, curiosities or rare written docements including an autograph letter of Archduke Ferdinand.
