Během posledních třiceti letech došlo k podstatným změnám v chápání domova na půdě společenských věd. I když je stále ještě možné rozeznat vliv fenomenologie na konceptualizaci domova, současné geografické, antropologické a sociologické studie domova jsou významně ovlivněny kritickou sociální teorií. Cílem tohoto článku je především poskytnout čtenářům přehled o vývoji přístupů k domovu ve společenských vědách (na pomezí sociologie, antropologie a geografie) a představit současné pojetí domova jako mnohovrstevnatého fenoménu zaměřené na domov jako místo kontinuální výroby, spotřeby, vyjednávání významů a identit a kladoucí důraz na každodenní zkušenost. Článek nejen představuje vývoj a aktuální posuny (anglofonních) studií domova, ale diskutuje i současný český přístup k domovu jako tématu i výzkumnému terénu.

Over the past thirty years, a substantial change in how home is understood in social science has occurred. While it is still possible to discern the influence of phenomenology on contemporary thinking about home, the studies presently at the forefront of geography, anthropology and sociology of home largely reflect the impact of critical social theory and the cultural and spatial turn in social science. At the same time, studies of home greatly contribute to blurring the lines between these disciplines. The main aim of the article is to provide the reader with an overview of the developments in the field and to explore the contemporary approaches to home as a complex and multi-layered phenomenon. At the same time, the article strives to unravel the developments and topical shifts in (largely English language based) studies of home and to present current Czech takes on the issue affected by the contemporary focus on home as the site of continuous production, consumption and negotiation of meanings and identities, which is dominated by emphasis on the everyday experience of home.
