Kapitola se zabývá tradičními obřady a obyčeji spjatými s přelomovými událostmi lidského života, jako je narození dítěte, svatba, smrt a pohřeb. Jejich oslavy se až do přelomu 19. a 20. století vyznačovaly bohatstvím symbolických forem. Autorka dokládá význam tradičních představ a chování, ritualizujících potřeby a zájmy nábožensky, národnostně a sociálně ekonomicky rozvrstveného společenství, které patřily k nejstabilnějším složkám identity obyvatel předměstských obcí Brna.

The chapter deals with the traditional ceremonies and customs related to the breakthrough events of the human life, such as the birth of a child, marriage, death, and funeral. Their celebrations are held until the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. century richness of symbolic forms. The author shows the importance of traditional ideas and behavior, ritualizing needs and interests of religion, nationality and social economically stratified communities that were the most stable components of identity inhabitants of suburban municipalities in Brno.
