V letošním roce uplynulo 100 let od úmrtí Ernsta Macha, velikána fyziky a filozofie sklonku 19. století. K odkazu Ernsta Macha se již tradicne hlásí Víden, kde Ernst Mach pusobil v záveru své kariéry, a také jeho rodné Chrlice spolu s Brnem, ke kterému dnes Chrlice patrí. Jen Praha jako by po dlouhá desetiletí nedokázala docenit skutecnost, že nejvýznamnejší fyzikální výsledky Ernsta Macha pocházejí z období, kdy jako profesorexperimentální fyziky pracoval na pražské Karlo-Ferdinandove univerzite. Naštestí se Ceské fyzikální spolecnosti JCMF podarilo využít príležitost, kterou kulaté výrocí nabízelo, a s podporou naší nejstarší univerzity umístit na její budove v Praze — na Ovocném trhu císlo popisné 7 — pametní desku a plaketu.

The centenary of Ernst Mach’s death was commemorated in 2016. The legacy of Ernst Mach, who presents an impressive personality of the physics and philosophy of the end of the 19th century, is traditionally promoted in Vienna, Austria, where Mach worked towards the end of his professional career, and also in his native Chrlice near Brno. Ernst Mach, however, published his most influential physical results while working in the city of Prague, which failed to appreciate this fact for several decades. Fortunately the Czech Physics Society seized the opportunity of the centenary, and with support of the oldest Czech university unveiled the commemorative plaque on Ovocny market 7 building in Prague. The article details the event and briefly summarises life of Ernst Mach in Prague.
