Oleg Alexandrovic Lavrentev inicioval výzkumu řízené termojaderné fúze v Sovětském svazu. Existuje jistá pravděpodobnost, že se podílel na použití deuteridu lithia 6 jako výbušniny ve vodíkové bombě. Článek konfrontuje vzájemné pohledy Lavrentěva a předsedy Zvláštní komise pro atomovou energii L. P. Beriji, Lavrentěva a spoluautora neúspěšnějšího termojaderného zařízení tokamaku A. D. Sacharova, Lavrentěva a významného teoretika termojaderného plazmatu R. Z. Sagdějeva.

Oleg Alexandrovich Lavrentev has initiated research on controlled thermonuclear fusion in the Soviet Union.
