The paper deals with the role of Crimean Cherson in the Pontic and Mediterranean trade network in the early and middle Byzantine period. Cherson was an important commercial centre and the paper focuses on its trade connections. How did these connections change in the course of time? What was the role of Nomads and other non-Greek Crimean inhabitants in trade with the Byzantines? Which products were traded primarily? Finally, the possible role of Cherson in the silk trade will be considered.
