Tato esej pojednává o Hrabalově údajné 'kapitulaci' před komunistickým režimem. V polovině sedmdesátých let byl publikován zcenzurovaný rozhovor s Bohumilem Hrabalem, který část veřejnosti interpretovala tak, že spisovatel souhlasí s režimem vládnoucím tehdy v Československu. Hrabal potom upravil některá svá díla tak, aby mohla vyjít v oficiálních nakladatelstvích, ale zároveň své texty v originálním znění dále uveřejňoval v samizdatu nebo v zahraničí.

This essay is a reflection on Hrabal's alleged 'capitulation' to communist powers. In the mid-1970s, an expurgated interview with Bohumil Hrabal was published; in it, the author seemed to claim allegiance with the socialist regime ruling Czechoslovakia at the time. Hrabal subsequently edited his works so that they could be officially published, but at the same time, they also came out as samizdat and in exile. Hrabal thus effectively broadened his options for publication, and as such, we cannot speak of him as having capitulated.
