CO2-rich mixtures occur in many technical applications including, e.g., Carbon Capture and Storage and the conditioning of natural gas. The description of the subsystem CO2/H2O turned out to be particularly challenging and relevant. Phase equilibria involving multiple fluid phases, water ice, dry ice, and hydrates have to be considered. An accurate mixing model for CO2/H2O, advanced phase-equilibrium algorithms, and models that consistently describe the solid phases are available by now. This study presents the status of the development of accurate empirical property models for CO2/H2O mixtures addressing both achievements and limitations of the available models.
