Sn doped ZnO rice-like nanoparticles were prepared by thermal hydrolysis of the zinc peroxo-complex precursor, and then calcined at different temperatures for 2 h. The structural properties were determined by the X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy. The morphology was studied by scanning electron microscopy, the nitrogen adsorption-desorption was used for determination of the surface area and porosity. The method of UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy was employed to estimate the band-gap energies. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared samples was assessed by the photocatalytic decomposition of Orange II dye in an aqueous slurry under irradiation of 365 nm wavelength.
