By micro-mechanics or micro-mechanics of geomaterials we understand and analaysis of mechanical properties of natural or modified geomaterials by numerical testing of digitalized samples. This testing involves necessary information about inner structure, provided e.g. by X-ray Computed Tmography (CT) for structure visualisation and image analysis, constructing Finite Element (FE) model, finding efficient numerical methods for computation and getting information from averages of comuputed stresses and strains. This also involves additional tasks of sensitivity analysis to changes in local material properties, micro-level structure and FE mesh: the numerical results validation by comparison with laboratory testing of samples, use of identification technique for refining the knowledge on local material properties and calibration of the upsealing procedure. This paper concerns especially the aspects of efficient computational methods and use of identification techniques to enhance teh reliability of micro-geomechanics.
