    AnnotationThe paper presents the current results of the experiments conducted in the field of climate durability of materials permitted by the EU RoHS Directive for the assembly of electrical and electronic equipment. The authors focused primarily on the issue of climate durability of circuit made of lead-free solders based on alloys with a predominance of pure tin and electrically conductive adhesives based on epoxy resin filled with silver particles. Basic electrical and mechanical properties were studied during the ageing processes in very corrosive environment. In this segment of the research, quite unexpected result was achieved, particularly in the solder alloy. Laboratory research has resulted into the verification of the results by performing long-term experiments under the real climatic conditions. Degradation was studied in standard environment as well as in the harsh environment of motorway tunnel. At the same time in the paper authors discusses a new and currently very topical issue of the relationship between durability and reliability of the products in relation to their ecological characteristics and possibilities of their practical and subsequent recycling. Based on the experimental results, the paper also evaluates the climatic, technological and reliability implications of this legislation forced transition to lead-free assembly technology.
