The present paper describes the results of an experimental investigation and flow visualization of coarse particle-water mixtures in two experimental pipe loops with smooth stainless steel of inner diameter D = 36 and 100 mm, respectively. Glass balls (Pp = 2 540 kg.m-3) and graded gravel (pp = 2 650 kg.m-3), both of the mean diameter d 50 = 6 mm, and basalt pebbles (pp = 2 787 kg.m-3) of narrow particle size distribution and of the mean diameter d50 = 11 were used as models of coarse-grained material. water was used as the carrier liquid. The volumetric concentration cv of the studied mixtures ranged from 2.7 to 14%). Concentration distribution was measured using y-ray device. A transparent viewing section was used for observation of flow pattern and particle movement.
