This paper describes and compares some possible solutions on how to use standard statistical procedures, blind search, formal concepts, Hopfield-like neural network, and genetic algorithms for finding overlapping binary factors. The application of factor analysis as a base for further investigation and interpretation of the factor loading matrix by means of fuzzy cluster analysis is suggested. Some experiments were performed with using statistical packages STATISTICA and S-PLUS, and our own software implementations.
