AnnotationHomogeneous nucleation rates of water droplets formed in supersaturated vapor - nitrogen mixture were determined using the expansion wave tube, which is a modified shock tube. Experiments were performed at about 240 K so that the formed liquid phase was supercooled water. Comparison with the classical nucleation theory shows a disagreement by several orders of magnitude. Comparisons with literature experimental data reveals an influence of the background gas (here nitrogen, in the literature helium or argon).
