Předmětem studie je podrobná analýza Škrétova životopisu uveřejněného Joachimem von Sandrart v Teutsche Academie v roce 1675, totiž rok po malířově smrti. Tento text poskytoval nejenže první souhrnnou reflexi malířova života a tvorby, ale stal se i východiskem uměleckohistorického hodnocení malíře jako zakladatele barokního malířství v Čechách.

The subject of the study is a detailed analysis of Škréta´s biography published by Joachim von Sandrart in the Teutsche Academie in 1675, one year after the artist´s death. This text not only provided the first comprehensive reflection on the painter´s life and work, but also constituted the art-historical evaluation of Škréta as the founder of Baroque painting in Bohemia.
