The paper is devoted to the problems related to communication in multi–national research team, which can strongly impact the result of cooperation regardless of the level of the team member’s expertise. This dimension of international cooperation—well known in global business project management—in social sciences and humanities academic practice seems to get less attention than questions about concrete methodological problems. The author, based on real experiences when working in various international teams, outlines some critical aspects of international research cooperation—human factor, cultural differences, differences in research traditions and habits, and lingua franca—and comments on them using the relevant literature. The text thus might be useful especially for relative newcomers to the field of international research cooperation.
