    The results indicate that pharmacological activation of mitochondrial large-conductance calcium-activated potassium channels effectively protects isolated cardiomyocytes against injury associated with simulated reperfusion. The mechanism of this form of protection requires signaling via reactive oxygen species, but not the activation of the pro-survival phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase pathway
