For catalyst preparations, polymer materials offer very high supporting capacity and extensive possibilities of controlled modifications and tailoring for specific applications. They are very useful in heterogenizations of homogeneous catalysts – prominent examples of this category are strongly acidic ion exchangers applied in a number of industrial processes. However, for employing of full potential of the polymer supports is necessary good knowledge and understanding of their specific properties. The most significant of them swelling of polymer support in contact with the reaction environment. In polymer supported catalysts the working "arenas" of catalytic centres are cavities in swollen polymer gel rather than solid surface as in conventional catalytic materials. In this contribution will be discussed specific properties of microreactor environment inside polymer supports, assessment of their swollen-state morphology and its influence on relations between swollen-state morphology of polymer based catalyst, importance of active site distribution and their application properties.
