Mongolsko je součástí jednoho velkého etnického kotle v oblasti mezi Jižní Sibiří, Sajany a Altajem, kde po celá staletí docházelo k bouřlivé etnogenezi mnoha kmenů. Vlivem klimatických změn a kmenových bojů byla starší etnika postupně asimilována mladšími nebo vytlačována směrem na západ do eurasijských stepí a některá z nich tak postupně doputovala až do Evropy. Historie mongolské země je proto velice barvitá, ale zároveň nepřehledná a komplikovaná, protože nositelé jejích kultur jsou neustále v pohybu a historické prameny často chybí. Zásadním a mnohdy i jediným zdrojem informací bývá proto právě archeologie.

Mongolia is a part of huge epicentre of ethnic processes in the large area among Southern Siberia, Sayan and Altai Mountains. Due to climatic conditions and social-economic processes the older ethnics were assimilated or pushed by the recent ones to the steppes of Eurasia and further to European corridor. History of Mongolia is so far various and confused topic as its cultures were constantly in motion but historical sources are limited or even missing. The archaeology gives us the very important and often the only source of information.
