Studie upozorňuje na to, že performanční studia se díky svému širokému vymezení zkoumaného předmětu a neexistenci jednotné teorie a metodologie sami chytají do celé sítě epistemologických napětí. I když někteří badatelé se tyto teoretické a metodologické problémy pokusili již vyřešit vypracováním obecné teorie performance, autor studie naznačuje, že přesto nejspíš ještě nějakou dobu potrvá, než dojde k vypracování teorie oboru jako takového, k vytvoření jeho vlastní epistemologie.

The study points out the main personalities, tendencies and aims of performance art and performance studies. The author draws attention to the fact that performance studies fall by reason of their broad delimitation of the subject under examination and non-existence of a unified theory and methodology into an entire web of epistemological tensions. Even though these some researchers have already attempted to resolve these theoretical and methodological problems by development of a general theory of performance, the author suggests that it will nonetheless still take some time before a theory of the field as such and its own epistemology is elaborated.
