Dobrá znalost populační biologie, genetické rozmanitosti a faktorů životního prostředí je nezbytná pro efektivní ochranu vzácných druhů. Naše studie se věnovala druhu Ligularia sibirica, kriticky ohroženému druhu rostlin chráněného podle směrnice EU o stanovištích (příloha II). Naše výsledky ukazují, že velikost populace a genetická rozmanitost nejsou hlavní problém pro L. sibirica a zachování druhu by se měla zaměřit na obnovení stanovištních podmínek odvodněných lokalit.

Good knowledge of population biology, genetic diversity, and environmental factors is necessary for efficient conservation of rare species. Our study species is Ligularia sibirica, a critically endangered plant species protected under the EU Habitats Directive (Annex II).Our results indicate that the population size and the genetic diversity are not a major problem for L. sibirica and conservation of the species should focus on restoring habitat conditions of drained localities.
