This particular event examines the role the margin of appreciation plays in building a complex European community. It is suggested that the margin of appreciation doctrine paves the way for developing a mode of communication that transcends the confines of a single case/national order towards a multi-complex mode of existence qua community. In this respect, human rights form an integral part of the democratic order, rather then some external limitation, which the polis is supposed to represent and derive its legitimacy from.
