Klade důraz na v knize patrný rozměr sociálních dějin muslimského světa, který je jinak v české arabistice a islamologii málo zastoupen. Oceňuje zejména autorovu snahu o vysvětlení vztahu islámu k vínu v kulturně rozmanitých prostředích islámské civilizace. Recenze také kriticky reflektuje prezentaci tématu autorem, včetně použité heuristiky. Description in English The review pays due attention to the interdisciplinary nature of Mendel’s book, namely the links between islamology and comparative religion/social history of the Middle East. Following the main highlights of the book, the review examines the ambivalent relationship between Islam and viticulture in different regions of the Muslim world. Overall, the review asserts that the book is a solid contribution in the field of Arab and Islamic studies within the limits of the Czech Lands.
