Among other cutting process, plasma arc cutting is the most widespread as it provides satisfactory cutting quality for the reasonable costs. A highly constricted transferred arc is utilized to cut any electrically conductive material. Composition of the plasma forming gas is decisive for gas dynamic and heat transfer characteristics of arc and plasma jet as well as for chemical reactions of plasma with melted material. The present paper studies an effect of plasma medium on arc properties and cutting performance.
