The sample consisted of 636 Prague school pupils aged 9 to 11. The children were individually assessed using Children’s Depression Inventory (CDI) and Prague Children’s Wechsler (a Czech version of Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children). Other variables registered were: age, sex and grade point average from the last school report. The results show that underachievers do not differ in the CDI scores from children with low achievement. Both groups reach higher total CDI scores than children with no problems in the area of academic achievement.
