AnnotationThe spatial discretization of elastic continuum by the finite element method (FEM) introduces dispersion errors to numerical solutions of stress wave propagation problems. Moreover, oscillations near the sharp wavefront in FE solution appear. In this work, the B-spline based finite element method is tested in numerical modelling in one-dimensional elastic wave propagation. The special attention is paid to the study of spurious oscillations in wavefront propagation problems with stress discontinuities.
